Ingredients Needed For Currant Squares

Directions To Prepare Currant Squares
*Before grating butter or margarine, freeze it for 30 minutes.

*In a large bowl, mix flour, salt and butter or margarine. Mix well.
**Add iced water and mix until a dough is formed.
**Wrap dough in soft cloth and chill in fridge.

*Put all filling ingredients (currants, lemon rind, apple, butter, sugar, bread, spice) in a saucepan. Mix and bring to a boil. Set aside to cool.

*Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

*Take half of the chilled pastry dough and roll out very thinly on baking tray.
*Pour currant filling and spread evenly.

*Roll out the remaining dough and use it to cover the currant filling. Glaze with egg or milk.

*Bake for 30 minutes or until golden in color.
*Dust with Sugar just before cutting into squares and servings.
